GUM DEPTH MEASUREMENT/DIAGNOSIS
Gum health is vital to our overall oral health. The gums are what provide a seal around your teeth to protect the roots of your teeth and your jaw bone. Gums do not directly connect to the teeth, there is a small pocket between the gum and the tooth. This pocket increases in depth when an individual has gum disease.
To check on the health of your gums, the dentist will periodically measure the depths of these pockets and record the results. Measurements are done very gently so as not to cause damage to the delicate gum tissue. You will be able view the results of these measurements and over time will see whether your gum health is improving or getting worse. The dentist can then advise you on how to take care of your gums to keep them in good shape.
