SEALANTS
A sealant is a thin, protective coating that is generally applied to molars and premolars, the teeth you chew with. The coating is typically made from plastic and other materials. Dental sealants do an exceptional job of preventing cavities, often reducing the risk by nearly 80%. Sealants tend to last several years before reapplication is necessary.
Sealant Appointment
Sealant application is quick and painless often done the same day of your dental cleaning. First the dentist or dental hygienist will clean and dry the teeth. Next, a special gel is applied to clean the surface and give the sealant a good surface to adhere to. The dentist or dental hygienist will then wash out the gel and apply the sealant. Once the sealant is applied, a special light is used to harden the sealant.
